Iran and Turkmenistan in energy talks

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, July 24 (UPI) -- Iranian and Turkmen leaders are meeting to discuss economic cooperation, including various components of mutual energy needs.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is making his first official visit to Turkmenistan, where he and President Saparmyrat Nyyazow are meeting Monday and Tuesday.

The Turkmen State News Service reports that Iran wants to set a new price for natural gas shipments from Turkmenistan. Iran is second to Russia in gas imports from Turkmenistan in 2006.

The pair will also discuss the future of Caspian Sea gas fields, their legal status and hydrocarbon development.
