Turkmenistan to export gas to Iran

ASGABAT, Turkmenistan, April 11 (UPI) -- Turkmenistan will sell natural gas to Iran at $65 per 1,000 cu.m., the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

The price is retroactive from Feb. 1, 2006. Under a deal signed Tuesday between Mohammad Hasan Mojarrad, an adviser to the director-general of the Iranian National Gas Co.,

Mojarrad said he was confident the accord will promote and enhance the partnership between the two countries in the gas sector, the statement said.

Iran is said to have 940 trillion cubic feet in proven natural gas reserves.
