ExxonMobil touts energy efficiency

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Decreasing vehicle weight by 10 percent translates to a 7 percent increase in energy efficiency, ExxonMobil said ahead of an Abu Dhabi energy conference.

ExxonMobil said in a statement Wednesday it would display its commitment to energy efficiency at the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi Jan. 19.

Frank J. Kemnetz, general manager of ExxonMobil Abu Dhabi, said its display at the conference will highlight its work toward operational and consumer-based efficiency.

"At the ExxonMobil exhibit, we will present some details of our longstanding effort to develop and deploy technologies that improve energy efficiency, both in our operations and in the consumer use of our products," he said.

ExxonMobil will put on display prototype vehicles using parts made of lightweight plastics and rubbers, which the energy major says contribute to greater fuel economy.

The exhibit also will feature details of the group's energy outlook, which explores the use of alternative energy sources and decreased emissions.
