LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- During this week's 2016 Consumer Electronic Show, LG Electronics will unveil a high-definition television bendable enough that it can be rolled up like a newspaper.

The TV's 18-inch display will be one of many concept designs the company will premiere at CES, LG Display wrote in a statement. Other concepts include a 55-inch TV that's as thin as a piece of paper and a 65-inch set of TVs that can bend inward or outward.

BBC News' North America technology reporter Dave Lee had a look at the screen, which he described as a "remarkable innovation-in-progress."

"Why would you want a bendable TV? LG says it's ideal for making displays, like in a shop, but also for people who no longer want to sacrifice an entire corner of a room to a television," Lee writes, but added that "because while the screen is remarkable, it suffers a few flaws" -- including "dead" pixels.

The screen also only bends in one direction and cannot be folded flat. There is no estimate on the price or the availability of the device.

"The larger prototype is expected in the near future. But as for a commercial product, we're still planning the timing," KJ Kim, LG Display's vice president of its marketing division, told Lee.
