Nicole Kidman criticized for Etihad Airways ad

NEW YORK, April 7 (UPI) -- Actress Nicole Kidman is facing criticism for starring in an ad for Etihad Airways due to its alleged mistreatment of women.

The Assn. of Professional Flight Attendants said Kidman's work as a U.N. global ambassador for women contradicts her work with the airline which allegedly treats its flight attendants poorly and is owned by country where men are allowed to strike their wives.

"The APFA must respectfully ask that you -- as a leading advocate for women around the globe -- not lend your voice, your image and your good name to Etihad Airways, the second-largest airline in the UAE," said the flight attendants in an open letter to Kidman.

The airline allegedly fired pregnant women and used other unfair labor practices against female staff.

Etihad responded, saying it treats all workers fairly and has received a 93 percent employee approval rating.
