ST. PAUL, Minn., March 18 (UPI) -- Target has agreed to put $10 million in a settlement fund for victims of a data breach that compromised the credit card data of up to 40 million customers in 2013.

"We are pleased to see the process moving forward and look forward to its resolution," Target spokeswoman Molly Snyder told CBS News.

The settlement was brought about by a class-action lawsuit against the discount retail giant stemming from the massive data breach.

A federal judge must sign off on the agreement before it can go into affect. A settlement proposal hearing was scheduled for Thursday in St. Paul.
