AUSTIN, Texas, March 15 (UPI) -- AeroMobil announced at SXSW that it plans to create a car that not only flies, but does so without human operation.

"[Self-driving] technology is coming to the car, but as an autopilot, it's already there," Juraj Vaculik, CEO of AeroMobil, told Mashable. "There are already systems for taking off and landing automatically. These two technologies can work together."

Vaculik also spoke of creating a car service like Uber or Lyft for the self-flying cars, so people could order one up on their phone and get a ride.

AeroMobil projects its flying car will be available in 2017, and the self-flying car sometime in the years following. The 2017 model will have a hybrid engine and will fly over 900 miles without refueling. It will be able to land on most even surfaces, like fields, provided there is enough space.
