The bank initially announced the breach in August.

J.P. Morgan said the attackers took personal information -- including names, phone numbers, addresses and email addresses.

The breach is still under investigation and extended to the most of the company's customer base, which means about two-thirds of American households were affected.

About 7 million small businesses in the U.S. were also hit in the breach.

The bank said in statement on Thursday, customer money is safe.

It also said that important information like Social Security numbers, passwords, account numbers and dates of birth were not taken by the thieves.

According to Chase, "unlike recent attacks on retailers, we have seen no unusual fraud activity related to this incident."

The company also reiterated that customers are not liable for any fraudulent charges, if the bank is notified right away.

The nation's largest bank isn't alone in being the victim of hackers.

In September, Home Depot announced it's payment systems were breached, affecting 56 million customers.

And in December of last year, Target said they were also the victim of a cyber attack, where thieves managed to get their hands on the information of 40 million customers.
