NEW YORK, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- One wireless company is going back on its plan to slow down data for their unlimited users data. On Wednesday, Verizon abandoned the plan -- which would have toggled users data during peak usage times.
However, those restrictions would not have been tied to those on tiered plans with data caps.
That decision caused concern at the FCC.
In July, the chairman of the FCC -- Tom Wheeler -- sent a letter to the company that said he was worried about the proposal and warned against using the term "network management" as "a loophole designed to enhance your revenue streams."
Verizon's critics said the communications company were slowing down unlimited plans in order to get users on to more profitable tiered plans.
The company sent a news release on Wednesday which said: "We've greatly valued the ongoing dialogue over the past several months concerning network optimization and have decided not to move forward with the planned implementation of network optimization for 4G LTE customers on unlimited plans."
The FCC chair applauded Verizon's decision saying, "This is a responsible action and I commend Verizon's leadership on this issue."
