British manufacturing remains in resurgence

LONDON, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- British manufacturing continued to show signs of expansion in September, Markit Economics reported Tuesday.

With numbers above 50 indicating growth, Markit said the manufacturing purchasing managers index for Britain was little changed August to September, as it dropped from 57.1 -- a two and a half year peak -- to 56.7.

The index "remained in expansion territory for the sixth successive month," Markit said.

Markit said manufacturing production, at a 19-year high in August, slowed slightly. The growth rate of new orders also "lost only minor impetus from a similar peak reached in the prior survey month," Markit said.

New export orders rose moderately in the month, but seemingly from all corners. "Companies reported higher demand from the United States, Europe, Asia, Middle East, Scandinavia, Latin America, Russia and Australia," Markit said.
