Nissan to recall 908,000 vehicles worldwide

TOKYO, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Nissan Motor Co. said it will recall 908,000 vehicles, 764,800 of them in Japan, to fix defective accelerator sensors that could cause engines to stall.

The defect could also destabilize accelerator pedals, resulting in failure to accelerate properly, Automotive Business Review reported.

Nissan, which announced the recall plan Thursday, said it had not received reports the defect has caused accidents or injuries, the publication said.

Vehicles affected by the recall were produced between 2004 and 2013 in Japan -- where the recall will affect Serena, X-Trail, Lafesta and Fuga models, among others.

The recall will affect 98,300 vehicles in the United States, Europe and elsewhere, including some Infiniti M models.

The company said it will replace the accelerator pedals and will repair the engine control programming, the report said.
