BRUSSELS, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Industrial production rose by 0.7 percent from May to June in the eurozone and 0.9 percent in the European Union, the EU statistical office reported Tuesday.
Compared to June 2012, production rose 0.3 percent in the 17-member eurozone and 0.4 percent in the then-27-member European Union. Croatia, the 28th member, did not join until July after the time period covered in the report.
Since May, durable goods production rose 4.9 percent in the eurozone and 4.2 percent in the EU.
Capital goods production rose by 2.5 percent in both the eurozone and the EU.
Production of non-durable goods in the eurozone fell 0.6 percent. In the EU, non-durable goods production fell 0.3 percent month to month.
Energy production dropped in the eurozone and in the EU, falling 1.6 percent and 1.3 percent, respectively.
The largest month-to-month gains were in Ireland, Romania and Poland, where industrial production rose 8.7 percent, 5.7 percent and 3.1 percent, respectively.
The largest declines were in the Netherlands, Portugal and France, with drops of 4.1 percent, 2.8 percent and 1.5 percent, respectively.
