Indicators point to slowing growth in China

PARIS, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- The Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development said Thursday their Composite Leading Indicators showed China's economy losing momentum.

The organization that represents 34 of the world's largest economies said that indicators were "practically unchanged from last month's assessment in all major economies except China where the CLI is now pointing to slowing momentum."

The CLI for the eurozone, in contrast "continues to indicate a gain in growth momentum."

In Germany, the CLI points to growth returning. In Italy, it points to "a positive change in momentum." In France, the CLI points to an economy that is "relatively stable," the OEDC said.

The indexes for Canada and India show growth, while the same measures for Russia and Brazil show "slowing momentum," the organization said.

In the United States, Britain and Japan, growth is "firming," the report said.
