Study: Female CEOs rare in South Korea

SEOUL, March 8 (UPI) -- A study released Friday said South Korea's 1,787 publicly listed companies have been extremely slow to hire women to lead them.

Females comprise 0.7 percent of all the chief executive officers in South Korea, Yonhap reported.

South Korea's female CEOs run, on average, relatively small companies.

The study said the capitalization of companies run by women was valued at $4.72 billion or about 0.4 percent of the total value of the country's corporations.

A Fortune magazine study showed 4.2 percent of world's 1,000 largest companies were run by women, Yonhap said.
