NEW YORK, March 7 (UPI) -- Gold gave up $5.70 Thursday, settling at $1,578 per troy ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Silver shed 14 cents to reach $28.88 per ounce.
On Wall Street, the Dow Jones industrial average set an all-time closing high for the third consecutive session, adding 33.25 points, or 0.23 percent, to close at 14,329.49.
Against the dollar the euro rose to $1.3107 from Wednesday's $1.2966. Against the yen, the dollar was higher at 94.81 yen from 93.07 yen.
