Industrial production slips in Europe

BRUSSELS, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Europe's industrial production dropped 0.3 percent in November compared with October, the European Union's statistical office Eurostat reported Monday.

Production was also down by the same percentage in both the 27-member EU and the 17-member eurozone, the data branch of the European Commission said.

November marked the second consecutive month of declines. In October, industrial production fell 0.8 percent in the EU and 1 percent in the eurozone.

In November, energy production dropped by 0.7 percent in the larger EU and 1.6 percent in the eurozone. Manufacturing of durable goods fell 1.4 and 1.1 percent, respectively. Intermediate goods production dropped 0.4 percent in the EU and 0.3 percent in the eurozone in the month.

Production of durable goods is down 6.8 percent over the past 12 months in the EU and 7.7 percent in the eurozone.
