CPI in eurozone holds at 2.4 percent

BRUSSELS, July 16 (UPI) -- The 12-month consumer price index in the 17-member eurozone was unchanged in June, but slightly higher in the European Union, Eurostat said Monday.

The inflation rate for the eurozone held at 2.4 percent May to June. It was slightly lower than June 2011, when the inflation rate was 2.7 percent, Eurostat said.

For the 27-member European Union, the inflation rate rose May to June, climbing from 2.5 percent to 2.6 percent. A year earlier, the rate was 3.1 percent.

Sweden enjoyed the lowest inflation month for June with price increases at 0.9 percent. Prices rose 1 percent in Greece and 1.6 percent in Bulgaria.

The highest inflation rates were posted in Estonia and Hungary, where prices rose 4.7 percent. Slovakia had the next highest rate, with prices climbing 4.1 percent.
