Eurozone inflation drops to 2.4 percent

BRUSSELS, May 31 (UPI) -- The 12-month consumer price index in the 17-member eurozone settled slightly to 2.4 percent in May, the European Union's data office said Thursday.

The inflation rate, posted as a preliminary, flash estimate, is 0.2 percentage points lower than April's 2.6 percent inflation rate, Eurostat said.

While based on incomplete information, the flash estimate has proven to be fairly reliable. It has been on the mark 19 out of the past 24 months and off by 0.1 percentage points in five of the past 24 months.
