Grain futures mixed on rain, higher dollar

CHICAGO, April 3 (UPI) -- Grain futures were mixed Tuesday following overnight rain in the Midwest, the dollar index up sharply and markets on Wall Street stumbling.

Corn was up 1/2 to up 3 1/4, soybeans were off 4 1/4 to off 6 1/2, wheat was off 2 1/2 to up 1 and oats were off 1 3/4 to up 2 1/2.

Corn prices rose modestly with funds buying early, then selling as the dollar gained strength. Rain on the plains raised the possibility of improving winter wheat conditions, which prompted some selling. In the soybean market, prices dropped with the dollar index up 0.63 percent on the International Exchange. Traders also reacted to the U.S. Federal Reserve meeting minutes, which pegged the economy as "expanding moderately."

Corn: May 6.58 1/4 up 3 1/4, Jly 6.53 up 2, Sep 5.73 1/2 up 2 1/2, Dec 5.45 1/2 up 1/2.

Soybeans: May 14.16 3/4 off 4 1/4, Jly 14.21 1/4 off 6, Aug 14.13 1/2 off 6, Sep 13.93 off 6 1/2.

Wheat: May 6.58 up 1, Jly 6.69 off 1/2, Sep 6.83 1/2 off 1 3/4, Dec 7.05 off 2 1/2.

Oats: May 3.36 up 1 1/4, Jly 3.35 3/4 off 1/4, Sep 3.35 off 1 3/4, Dec 3.41 up 2 1/2.
