Output of production industries fell 1.2 percent in the fourth quarter after rising 0.2 percent in the third. Production in the construction sector fell 0.5 percent after rising 0.3 percent July through September.

ONS said output by service industries, up 0.7 percent in the previous quarter, was unchanged from the third to the fourth quarter.

The ONS said a strike on Nov. 30 by public workers was "likely to have had some impact," on the GDP, although "it is not possible to measure the effect ... directly," the report said.
