MADRID, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Spanish airline Iberia said it would cancel 266 flights Jan. 9-11, due to a strike scheduled by its pilots.

The airline said "any acceptable alternatives" in their contract talks with pilots would be jeopardized by the strike. The company said a walkout would affect the travel plans for "thousands of people returning from holiday," ThinkSpain reported Thursday.

The canceled flights include both domestic and international routes, Iberia said.

The airline also said it would "do everything possible" to accommodate passengers with disrupted itineraries.

Iberia handled two strike days in December by finding other flights or offering hotel space to passengers. Of 22,000 passengers dealing with 218 canceled flights in the month, the airline was able to accommodate 90 percent of them, ThinkSpain reported.
