Crude oil closes in on $100

NEW YORK, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- February delivery crude oil approached $100 per barrel in New York as equities finished higher, a sign of a steadier economy overall.

Light, sweet West Texas Intermediate crude oil for February delivery added $1.06 to $99.70 per barrel. Home heating oil prices added 0.5 cents to $$2.9251 per gallon, while reformulated blendstock gasoline prices lost 1.3 cent to $2.6564 per gallon. Henry Hub natural gas prices added 0.4 cents to $3.031 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the national average price of unleaded gasoline rose 1.1 cents to $3.254 per gallon Thursday, AAA said.
