Security staff strike in France could end

PARIS, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- Union leaders representing striking airport security staff in France said they had a deal worth putting to a vote for ratification.

The strike was provoked by an offer to raise pay by $261 per month, which the unions rejected, Radio France Internationale reported Tuesday.

The new deal, which includes an annual bonus, is "better than nothing," one union leader said.

Union members were scheduled to meet Tuesday to review the deal and vote on whether or not to continue the strike that was times do disrupt holiday travel.

Disruptions, however, were minor, as French President Nicolas Sarkozy sent soldiers and police to airports to perform security checks.
