Weehoo bike trailers recalled

WASHINGTON, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- U.S. product safety regulators said Weehoo Inc. of Golden, Colo., is recalling 2,700 bike trailers due to reports of seat post hitches failing.

The bike trailers include a child seat on a back wheel that attaches to and follows a bicycle.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said the Weehoo iGo Bicycle Pedal Trailers have post hitches with receivers that can crack and detach, posing a risk of injury to the child in the seat.

The recall involves bicycle trailers made between April 2011 and July 2011. The trailers include a steel frame, an adjustable seat, two pedals with straps, a 20-inch wheel and two pannier pockets. The trailers are also sold with a flagpole and a flag to increase visibility.

They were sold nationwide from April 2011 through July 2011 for about $390.

Consumers were advised to stop using the trailers and contact Weehoo for the repairs. Consumers will receive a steel reinforcement sleeve to be installed over the receiver.

Consumers can call 800-538-6950 for information.
