Oil falls on August jobs report

NEW YORK, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Crude oil prices, stung by a poor U.S. jobs report, lost $2.48 to settle at $86.45 a barrel Friday on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

The Labor Department reported Friday the U.S. economy added no jobs in August and unemployment remained at 9.1 percent.

Gasoline lost 6 cents to settle at $2.83 per gallon.

Home heating oil fell 6 cents to $2.99 a gallon.

Natural gas lost 2 cents to settle at $3.86 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $3.647, up from $3.629 Thursday.
