NEW YORK, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Gold prices slide modestly in New York Monday as stocks rose solidly and the dollar index was flat, losing 0.03 percent.
Gold lost $6.80, a pinch compared with the $63 it lost Friday, the price setting Monday at $1,790.50 on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.

The euro rose to $1.451 from Friday's $1.4499. Against the yen, the dollar was 76.86 yen from Friday's 77.64 yen.
The British pound rose to $1.6411 from $1.6366. Against the Hong Kong dollar, the greenback fell to 7.7932 Hong Kong dollars from 7.796 HKD.
The dollar fell to 0.9765 Canadian dollars from 0.9817 Canadian.
