Gold sets yet another record at $1,852.20

NEW YORK, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Gold prices climbed to another record Friday on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, adding $30.20 to settle at $1,852.20 an ounce.

It traded as high as high as $1,881.40 an ounce, setting an intraday record for the precious metal.

"We could hit $2,000 as early as next week sometime at this rate, certainly in the next weeks," Matt Zeman, head trader and strategist at Kingsview Financial in Chicago, told MarketWatch.com.

Silver added $1.74 to settle at $42.43 an ounce.

The euro gained strength, climbing to $1.4388 Friday from Thursday's $1.4333. Against the yen, the dollar was 76.4900 yen Friday, from Thursday's 76.58 yen.

The British pound was $1.6479 Friday from $1.6526 Thursday. Against the Hong Kong dollar, the U.S. dollar was 7.7955 Hong Kong dollars from 7.7944 Hong Kong dollars Thursday.
