WASHINGTON, May 27 (UPI) -- Consumer spending and incomes rose 0.4 percent in April, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis reported Friday.
For incomes, it was the third consecutive month with a 0.4 percent gain, but the figure for spending is a drop from 0.5 percent in March and 0.8 percent in February.
For April, disposable incomes rose 0.3 percent, half the rate of gain reported for March. Personal savings dropped slightly to $570.6 billion in April from $576.7 billion in March.
In April, spending for durable goods was flat, rising less than 0.1 percent. Spending on non-durable goods also rose less than 0.1 percent after falling 0.2 percent in March.
Spending on services was up 0.1 percent in April.
Core prices, which excludes food and energy costs, rose 0.2 percent in the month, while prices overall rose 0.3 percent, slightly less than the 0.4 percent rise in the previous month.
