Sony servers hacked again

HELSINKI, Finland, May 20 (UPI) -- An ISP subsidiary of Japanese electronics giant Sony said its security system was breached in what would be the firm's third security failure in recent weeks.

The subsidiary, So-net, said a hacker broke into its system and stole $1,200 worth of tokens that can be redeemable for Sony products and services, Computerworld reported Friday.

Earlier Friday, an Internet security firm said a phishing site has been found on the servers of Sony's Thailand page.

"We just found a live phishing site running on one of Sony's servers," Mikko Hypponen of F-Secure wrote in a blog post reported by PC Magazine.

He said the breach was not related to earlier cyberattacks on the PlayStation Network and Sony Online Entertainment that involved a data theft involving 100 million account holders.

"Basically this means that Sony has been hacked, again. Although in this case the server is probably not very important," Hypponen said referring to the phishing site.

He posted screen shots of the Sony Thailand homepage and of a phishing site using the URL hdworld.sony.co.th, which seems to be targeting an Italian credit card company.

Hypponen notified Sony and later sent a Twitter message: "I can confirm that Sony has just minutes ago cleaned their site and removed the phishing site from hdworld.sony co.th."

Sony has been putting the PlayStation Network back online after the earlier attacks that took the services down for three weeks, The Washington Post reported.

In the attack on So-net, the hacker took virtual tokens from about 130 online customers and hacked into an additional 73 accounts where nothing was taken. About 90 e-mail accounts were also involved in the So-net security breach, Computerworld said.
