Wal-Mart perches atop Fortune 500

NEW YORK, May 5 (UPI) -- Wal-Mart's mantra of low, low prices pushed the U.S. super-retailer to the top of the Fortune 500 list of America's largest corporations.

Wal-Mart, the top Fortune 500 company for the second straight year, was followed by the three largest U.S. oil companies -- Exxon Mobil Corp., Chevron Corp. and ConocoPhillips, the Fortune 500 listing released Thursday indicated.

Fortune Magazine ranked companies based on revenue for 2010.

Rounding out the Top 10 were the Federal National Mortgage Association, commonly called Fannie Mae, General Electric, public holding company Berkshire Hathaway, General Motors, Bank of America and Ford Motors.
