WASHINGTON, May 4 (UPI) -- Former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft was named as an independent director of Xe Services, the security services firm's parent company announced Wednesday.

"We are ecstatic and honored to have Attorney General Ashcroft join the USTC team," officials of USTC Holdings, the consortium that acquired Xe Services, said in a release. "His relevant experience, unparalleled reputation for integrity and personal commitment to ethics, transparency, and excellence make him a valuable addition to the company."

USTC is a leading provider of training and security services that support the U.S. government and other customers. When it acquired Xe last year, USTC Holdings indicated it would form a new board of directors to deepen the company's governance and oversight capabilities.

Ashcroft will lead the company's Subcommittee on Governance, a newly formed entity within Xe's board, USTC said. The subcommittee's focus will be on the company's efforts to maximize governance, compliance and accountability, while building and promoting ethics and professionalism within the private security industry.

"I'm delighted to be involved in USTC's next phase of ownership and growth, particularly in helping to oversee its commitment to professionalism, compliance and accountability within the security industry," Ashcroft said in a statement. "This is a company with a strong history of service to its country, and a reputation of best-in-class offerings to its public and private customers."
