WASHINGTON, April 6 (UPI) -- Apex, N.C., firm Cooper Tools LLC is recalling 69,000 soldering irons with power cords that can break, posing a burn hazard, U.S. regulators said Wednesday.
The firm has received three reports of power cords breaking at the "flex point" where the cord attaches to the handle, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
The recall involves 100 watt, 120 volt stained glass soldering irons imported from Mexico. The soldering irons have "Weller" and model number W100PG, W100P3 or W100PGMX written on the handle, which is light blue.
They were sold nationwide from August 2006 through May 2010 for about $55.
Consumers were advised to stop using the soldering irons and contact Cooper Tools for instructions on sending the product to the company for an inspection and a free replacement if necessary.
