Gulf States Toyota recalls 1,500 cars

WASHINGTON, March 28 (UPI) -- Gulf States Toyota Inc. is recalling model year 2011 FJ Cruiser and 2009-2011 Tundra vehicles with faulty tire pressure monitor systems, U.S. regulators said.

The tire pressure monitoring systems may not have been properly calibrated on some vehicles, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a statement.

As a result, a warning light may not indicate properly if tire pressure is too low, which may trigger difficult driving and, potentially, a crash.

Gulf States Toyota, a large, private distribution company that deals with 150 dealerships in five southern states, is recalibrating the systems free of charge.

Inspections of the recalled vehicles is scheduled to begin in April.

Consumers can call Toyota at 1-800-444-1074 for information.
