NEW YORK, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- The mouth-watering smell of fresh baked bread wafted away in a New York neighborhood as the Wonder Bread plant ended its 130-year run Thursday.
Wonder Bread's parent company, Hostess, is laying off 175 workers and reassigning 15 from the Queens facility, the New York Daily News reported Thursday.

Opened in the 1870s as the Shults Bread Co., the bakery in the 1920s began producing loaves of Wonder Bread, giving factory tours and free samples.
Modernizing the bakery would be too costly and difficult, Hostess said last year.
