Crude oil prices slide Tuesday

NEW YORK, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Crude oil prices slid sharply in New York, dropping below $90 per barrel, but still hovering within striking distance of a two-year high.

February delivery light, sweet crude gave up $3.36 to $89.22, a 3.6 percent drop after hitting a two-year peak of $92.58 Monday.

Heating oil prices lost 4.98 cents to $2.503 per gallon. Reformulated blendstock gasoline shed 3.13 cents to $2.396 per gallon. Henry Hub natural gas lost 1.6 cents to $4.634 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the national average price of unleaded gasoline rose to $3.073 per gallon Tuesday, up from Monday's $3.072, AAA said.
