NEW YORK, April 26 (UPI) -- Four U.S. airports have said they would refund some of the parking fees incurred among passengers stranded overseas by Iceland's volcanic eruption.

John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey said passengers would have to initially pay the full parking fee, but those who departed before April 14 and had return flights on April 15 or after would be able to apply for a refund on the unplanned parking expenses, USA Today reported Monday.

Denver International Airport is offering a partial refund, the newspaper said.

McCarran International Airport spokesman Chris Jones in Las Vegas said the airport would waive "any unplanned parking fees incurred during periods in which a traveler was unable to return to Las Vegas due to volcano-related cancellations."

The volcano, Eyjafjallajoekull, has been active since late March. Ash from the eruptions began affecting flights over Europe in mid-April.
