Grain futures close higher Wednesday

CHICAGO, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Grain futures closed mostly higher on the Chicago Board of Trade Wednesday after equities in New York turned in strong gains.

Corn was up 1 1/4 to up 2, soybeans were up 1 to up 4, wheat was up 1 3/4 to up 2 and oats were off 5.

Corn futures rose in sympathy with crude oil prices, which climbed Wednesday. Wheat prices rose as the Buenos Aires Grains Exchange in Argentina lowed its crop estimate from 7.55 million to 7.5 million metric tons. Soybean futures rallied as the dollar dropped against the euro and the yen.

Corn: Dec 3.83, up 1 1/4; Mar 3.95, up 1 3/4; May 4.03, up 1 3/4; Jul 4.10 1/4, up 2.

Soybeans: Nov 9.94, up 1; Jan 9.98, up 2 1/4; Mar 9.99, up 3 3/4; May 9.93 1/2, up 4.

Wheat: Dec 5.13, up 1 3/4; Mar 5.32, up 1 3/4; May 5.44 3/4, up 1 3/4; Jul 5.55 3/4, up 1/4.

Oats: Dec 2.53 1/2, off 5; Mar 2.66 1/2, off 5; May 2.74, off 5; Jul 2.82, off 5.
