Grain futures mostly higher Tuesday

CHICAGO, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Grain futures closed mostly higher Tuesday on the Chicago Board of Trade following a run-up in oil prices in New York.

Corn was up 1/4 to up 1/2; soybeans were off 4 1/4 to off 6, wheat was up 15 1/2 to up 17 and oats were up 2 3/4 to up 3 3/4.

Corn futures rose in sympathy with oil prices that gained after the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries said demand for oil would increase through 2010. Wheat futures surged as the dollar's weakness increased competitiveness of U.S. commodities. Soybean prices fell as rains fell across growing areas in Arkansas, Missouri and western Tennessee.

Corn: Dec 3.81 3/4, up 1/2; Mar 3.93 1/4, up 1/4; May 4.01 1/4, up 1/4; Jul 4.08 1/4, up 1/2.

Soybeans: Nov 9.93, off 6; Jan 9.95 3/4, off 4 1/4; Mar 9.95 1/4, off 5 1/4; May 9.89 1/2, off 4 1/2.

Wheat: Dec 5.11 1/4, up 17; Mar 5.30 1/4, up 17; May 5.43, up 16 3/4; Jul 5.55 1/2, up 15 1/2.

Oats: Dec 2.58 1/2, up 3 3/4; Mar 2.71 1/2, up 3 3/4; May 2.79, up 3 1/4; Jul 2.87, up 2 3/4.
