Oil prices rebound Tuesday

NEW YORK, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Crude oil prices rose sharply during the U.S. Labor Day holiday weekend and topped $71 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange Tuesday.

Light, sweet crude had closed at $67.84 per barrel Friday. By Monday, prices shot up to $71.25 per barrel, a gain of $3.41 per barrel.

Heating oil prices rose 0.0625 cents to $1.7805 per gallon. Reformulated gasoline blendstock rose 0.0745 cents to $1.8315 per gallon. Natural gasoline prices rose 0.313 cents to $2.852 per million British thermal units.

At the pump, the national average price for unleaded gasoline was $2.578 per gallon Tuesday, down from Monday's $2.583, AAA said.
