XBox price change shifts consumer choices

REDMOND, Wash., Aug. 27 (UPI) -- U.S. software giant Microsoft confirmed Thursday it would cut the price of the higher-end X360 game platforms by the end of the week.

Previously priced at $400, starting Friday, the Xbox 360 Elite will cost $300, the same as the rival Play Station Three system, CNET reported Thursday.

The change shifts the shopper's choices dramatically. The Xbox 360 Elite with a 120 GB hard drive now costs the same as a PS3 Slim which includes Blu-ray technology.

The price of the Xbox 360 is also beginning to encroach on the Nintendo Wii, which retails for $250, CNET said.
