Dreamliner test flight back on schedule

CHICAGO, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Boeing Co. said the rescheduled inaugural flight of the U.S. plane maker's 787 Dreamliner would take place by the end of the year.

With initial deliveries delayed more than two years, Boeing said its first deliveries would occur in the fourth quarter of 2010, The New York Times reported Thursday.

For all the delays, Boeing said it would record a $2.25 billion pretax charge in the third quarter.

"This new schedule provides us the time needed to complete the remaining work necessary to put the 787's game-changing capability in the hands of our customers," said Boeing's Chief Executive Officer W. James McNerney Jr.

"The design details and implementation plan are nearly complete, and the team is preparing airplanes for modification and testing."

Boeing has orders for 850 of the planes, the Times said.
