Grain futures trade mostly lower

CHICAGO, May 26 (UPI) -- Grain futures closed mostly lower on the Chicago Board of Trade Tuesday in spite of a strong rally in New York stock markets.

Corn was off 3/4 to off 2 3/4, soybeans were up 11 to up 19 1/2, wheat was off 1/2 to up 1/2 and oats were off 1 1/2 to off 1 3/4.

Corn futures fell slightly as forecasts indicated planting delays would continue in the eastern half of the Midwest this week. Wheat prices fell as conditions improved in wheat areas of Australia and Argentina. Soybean futures climbed on news the week's export inspections exceeded expectations by nearly 3 million bushels.

The prices on futures contracts:

Corn: Jul 4.27 1/2, off 2 3/4; Sep 4.37 3/4, off 2 1/2; Dec 4.50 1/4, off 1 3/4; Mar 4.61, off 3/4.

Soybeans: Jul 11.85 1/2, up 19 1/2; Aug 11.50, up 16; Sep 10.87 1/2, up 11 1/4; Nov 10.42 1/2, up 11.

Wheat: Jul 6.12, off 1/2; Sep 6.38, off 1/2; Dec 6.60 3/4, off 1/4; Mar 6.76 3/4, up 1/4.

Oats: 2.47 3/4, off 1 3/4; Sep 2.56, off 1 1/2; Dec 2.67 3/4, off 1 3/4; Mar 2.81 3/4, off 1 3/4.
