Gatorade sues Coca-Cola over ads

NEW YORK, April 14 (UPI) -- Gatorade Co., a division of PepsiCo Inc., has filed suit in New York to stop a Coca-Cola Co. advertisement that compares the two companies' sports drinks.

The advertisement in question touts Coca-Cola's Powerade Ion 4 as "the complete sports drink," says Gatorade is "missing two electrolytes" and is therefore "incomplete," the Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday.

The suit claims there is "no evidence scientific or otherwise" that Powerade Ion 4 is a superior product.

PepsiCo bought Gatorade as part of a 2001 purchase of Quaker Oats Co. The company is asking Coca-Cola for damages suffered from what it considers false advertising.
