Grains mostly lower Thursday

CHICAGO, April 9 (UPI) -- Grains closed mostly lower on the Chicago Board of Trade Thursday, as the dollar gained in strength during a surge in U.S. stock markets.

Corn was off 6 3/4 to off 7, soybeans were up 1/2 to up 3, wheat was off 9 to off 10 1/4 and oats were off 1 to off 2.

Corn closed lower although the U.S. Department of Agriculture's stock report came in 15-20 million bushels below expectations at 1.7 billion bushels. Wheat inventories fell from 696 million bushels from 712 million a month ago, the USDA report said. Soybeans ending stocks fell 20 million bushels from last month's 185 million.

Corn: May 3.90 1/4, off 6 3/4; Jul 3.99 3/4, off 7; Sep 4.09 1/2, off 6 3/4; Dec 4.21 3/4, off 6.

Soybeans: May 10.07, up 1; Jul 10.02, up 1/2; Aug 9.80, up 3; Sep 9.44, up 3.

Wheat: May 5.22, off 10; Jul 5.33 1/2, off 10 1/4; Sep 5.60 1/2, off 10; Dec 5.83 1/2, off 9.

Oats: May 1.96, off 1; Jul 2.05, off 1; Sep 2.14, off 1; Dec 2.28, off 2.
