Google Canada named Canada's top employer

KELOWNA, British Columbia, April 7 (UPI) -- Technology company Google Canada on Monday was named the best place to work in Canada after a national survey of workers.

The global research firm, Great Place to Work Institute polled nearly 30,000 workers across the country and ranked the top 75 companies, the institute said in a release.

The top companies ranged from having 54 employees to 55,000, the release said.

One of the compliments paid to Google was its international policy of allowing staff 20 percent of their paid work time on personal interests.

Rounding out the top five, Environics Communications was in second place, followed by Protegra Technology, software company D.L.G.L. was fourth and Urban Systems Ltd. was fifth.

The institute also announced a new award sponsored by the Ernst & Young financial group to recognize the best workplace for women. It was awarded to Environics Communications, where 80 percent of executives are women.
