November travel to and from Canada down

TORONTO, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Travel into and out of Canada declined on a monthly basis in November, led by a 19.6 percent decline in visitors from Japan, Statistics Canada reported Tuesday.

Visitors made 2.2 million trips to Canada in November, down 0.9 percent from October, while Canadian residents made 4.1 million trips outside the country, down 1.1 percent from October, the agency said.

Travel from seven of the top 12 overseas markets to Canada also decreased by 2.1 percent during the month, led by Japan, StatsCan said.

Of Canadians leaving the country, 3.4 million were trips to the United States, down 1.9 percent from October. Same-day car travel from the United States into Canada decreased 2.6 percent in November to 749,000 trips, the report said.
