Survey: Canadians anxious about finances

TORONTO, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- A survey of Canadians about personal finances published Wednesday indicates nearly half are anxious about money matters.

The survey conducted in June for the BMO Financial Group found 46 percent of 1,000 Canadians polled said they felt anxiety about their financial situation while 53 percent said they should be able to manage their money better.

As for quantifying financial fears, the survey found 43 percent were concerned about not having enough money to retire comfortably, 20 percent said they were spending beyond their means, and 13 percent said they fret about not enjoying the money they already have.

When it came to publicly discussing the "hot topics" of money, politics and religion, 46 percent of the respondents said they were least comfortable talking about their money affairs. Religion was the second least favorite topic at 34 percent while 20 percent cited politics as their least favorite topic, the survey showed.
