WASHINGTON, July 31 (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Thursday announced a voluntary recall of Amsterdam Bicycles due to a risk of chain derailment.
About 9,500 of the recalled bicycles, imported from Taiwan by Electra Bicycle Co. of Vista, Calif., were sold between January 2007 and June 2008 for between $400 and $850 each.
The company has received four reports of the chain guards causing the bicycle chains to derail, including one report of minor cuts and abrasions, CPSC said.
The recall involves Amsterdam model bicycles in Classic 3, Original 3, Royal 8 and Sport 3 styles.
Consumers were advised to stop using the recalled bicycles and bring them to an Electra Bicycle dealer for a free inspection and repair.
Consumers can also call Electra at 800-261-1644 for more information.
