WINDSOR, Ontario, July 12 (UPI) -- Officials in Windsor have stalled negotiations for the sale of the Canadian city's shares of the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel, a lawyer says.
The city's lead negotiator, Cliff Sutts, said with Detroit officials mired in corruption allegations, Windsor officials have decided to halt ongoing negotiations for the $75 million sale, The Detroit News reported Saturday.
"It doesn't appear the mayor and the Detroit council (are) on the same wave length," said Sutts, referring to Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. "(Windsor) wants to deal with Detroit with one voice."
The stalling of the sale could be devastating for Kilpatrick, who the News said was relying on the sale to help balance Detroit's $3.1 billion budget.
Deputy Mayor Anthony Adams said the mayor, who has been accused of marital infidelity and perjury, is preparing to have the Detroit City Council outline the city's intentions to help solidify the deal.
"It's to give them another level of assurance that their efforts will not be for naught," Adams told the newspaper.
