BERLIN, May 17 (UPI) -- The German luxury automobile manufacturer Porsche will soon create as many as 2,700 jobs in Europe thanks to a new model, a company official says.

Porsche chief marketing head Klaus Berning said production of the new sports coupe Panamera model would mean 2,100 new jobs in Germany and likely another 600 positions across Europe, Deutsche Welle reported Saturday.

Berning said the production of the new model would include manufacturing by Porsche partner Volkswagen.

The marketing official denied any plans to manufacture in the United States or create a new Porsche sport utility vehicle, saying the auto maker was dedicated to its current financial goals.

"We don't chase volume. We aim to make money with every single car. The bigger a market segment is, the harder that becomes," he said. "So the small SUV is definitely not the way Porsche will be going."

Deutsche Welle said Volkswagen, meanwhile, has plans to build a new manufacturing plant in the United States that should produce 250,000 cars each year.
